DORCHESTER B 72

MOONFLEET B 103

DORCHESTER fell to a convincing 103-72 defeat due to a heavy last-rink loss against Moonfleet in their Wessex League Jurassic Region encounter.

Both sides were looking for their first win of the season having each opened their campaigns with a loss.

The two Dorchester home rinks had keen tussles, as Graham Crockett, George Aslett, Dennis Wright and skip Terry Cartwright took a 7-0 lead against the Moonfleet rink skipped by Pat Rod, before conceding a haul of five shots, but Dorchester had the better final run and grabbed a 22-17 result.

The clash between rinks skipped by David Glanville and Moonfleet’s Ashley Walsh, was a game of the proverbial two halves.

Walsh took his Moonfleet rink to a commanding 12-3 advantage, with Glanville’s side responding to reduce the final deficit to 21-18.

The short trip over the Ridgeway produced another winning rink to each side.

Dorchester visitors Robert Legg, Arthur Lacey, Pat Bickel and skip Brian Tucker got off to a flyer over Moonfleet skip Richard White who trailed initially 7-0, but White’s side crashed back to take an 8-7 lead. The next 14 ends were shared evenly, with Dorchester en-route to a fine but narrow 24-22 win.

The overall result of the match was decisively settled when Jim Hamilton and his Moonfleet team mates handed out a 43-8 drubbing to Steve Willsher, Alan Lewis, Norman Mortimer and David Bonnett.

Moonfleet took the spoils 12 points to four, and Dorchester were left to regroup for their next match against their own club’s A side.
