PLYMOUTH PARKWAY 2

Annear 1, M Williams 57

BRIDPORT dominated large spells of their Toolstation Western League Premier Division clash with Plymouth Parkway at St Mary’s Field, but were unlucky to sustain a 2-0 defeat.

Promotion hopefuls Parkway were quick to capitalise on a first-minute blunder from Kameron Andrews and Bees’ goalkeeper Jason Hutchings, their mix-up presenting former Newquay striker Jordan Annear with a simple chance to score.

Undeterred by the early concession, Bridport created a host of chances as they sought to respond, Andrews twice firing at the impressive Kyle Moore from distance.

Leighton Thomas then spurned an opening on the right, electing to fizz an overhit pass across goal to striker Mark Salter rather than control and shoot at goal himself.

Thomas was proving a constant source of danger for Bridport and the winger sent in numerous crosses, only for the Bridport attack to waste more chances.

Salter also missed a headed opportunity as Parkway attempted to slow the pace of the game down amid a flurry of home attacks.

After half-time, Parkway scored a flowing goal stemming from the right. Mikey Williams was the recipient of a pass from that flank and curled a beautiful curling shot beyond Hutchings into the top corner in the 57th minute.

Bridport were handed a lifeline two minutes later when Oscar Latas, dual-registered with Street, was brought down in the box. Salter stepped up but saw his spot-kick superbly saved before Latas was bravely thwarted by Moore on the rebound as the visiting goalkeeper continued to shine.

Parkway managed the game thereafter, seeing off a deflated Bridport as the Bees went a third game in a row without scoring.

Speaking to Echosport post-match, unconcerned boss Adam Fricker urged his side to take more of their chances.

He said: “We were unfortunate, we deserved more but we didn’t take our chances.

“I said to the lads ‘we can’t keep saying that, sooner or later we’ve got to start putting them away’.

“But plenty of heart to take away against a very good Parkway side, but we should have won the game.”
