MERE TOWN 6
CHICKERELL UNITED 1
CHICKERELL United conceded five goals in the second half as they were thumped by Mere Town in the Dorset Senior League.
Nick Voss scored in the second half for the Chickens but it was scant consolation as his side were well beaten after a treble from George Kimber, and goals from Jordan Shorrocks and Joseph and Sam Patterson.
Chickerell had Matt Cracknell, Shane James, Clayton Heath, James Hansford, Gavin Daniels and Matt Stickland all absent for the game.
The visitors started well with some very good defending but conceded the first goal after 25 minutes, when they gave away the ball cheaply on the halfway line.
Mere countered and saw a deflected shot fly past Ian Bickerstaff in the Chickerell goal.
The two sides went in 1-0 at half-time but Mere ramped up the pressure in the second period as they fired in five.
With the score at 5-0, Voss struck to narrow the scores after a great move down the left.
However, Mere then completed the rout as the away side fell to a heavy defeat.
Chickerell manager Shaun Murphy said: “It was very, very frustrating.
“Again we had a lot of key players missing and there were a lot of costly mistakes that cost us really.”
Chickerell next face a trip to Corfe Mullen United on Saturday, November 24.
Chickerell United: Bickerstaff, McCarthy, Miles, Rogers, Sandeman, Ellis, Harvey, Welch (70), Terry (Carter 45), Voss, Etherington
