WEYMOUTH manager Mark Molesley bemoaned a ‘Jekyll and Hyde’ performance and called for players to stand up and be counted after his side drew 2-2 with Street in their FA Trophy second qualifying round.

The Terras had been in control after goals from Ben Thomson and Jake McCarthy gave them a 2-0 lead at half-time.

However, Leigh Bailey struck in the 46th minute before a blistering late rally saw David O’Hare equalise in the 86th minute.

Molesley said: “It was a Jekyll and Hyde performance, I think you saw so much good stuff in the first half and then you are looking forward to the second half to get out there and get a good start.

“Unfortunately it did not work out like that, we fell asleep from a set-piece, and conceded and put their tails up.”

Molesley praised Street for their reply and admitted that 2-0 is always a difficult scoreline to defend.

Molesley said: “They are a good side, they have got nothing to lose, the pressure is off them and they really rallied.

“The goal changed the game, at 2-0 it is a difficult scoreline in terms of whether to stick or twist unfortunately we did not take the chances that we created early on.”

As a result of the draw, Weymouth will now travel to Street tomorrow night for the replay, after the third qualifying round draw today.

Molesley said: “We made it very, very difficult for ourselves.

“We are disappointed to say the least but the good thing is that we did not lose and we get another crack at it on Tuesday and I hope that we learn our lessons and learn our lessons fast.

“It is not the first time it has happened to us this season so I am looking for people to stand up and be counted now and make sure we right the wrongs.”

Molesley admitted the second half was too complacent from his side, but hopes it can have a positive impact on his side.

When asked if he felt the late stage of the game was more rallying from Street or complacency from Weymouth, Molesley responded: “I thought the second half was a little bit too complacent from us, after we had done such good work in the first half and then as I said a real Jekyll and Hyde performance from us.

“Hopefully that is a little reminder, a little slap round the face for us and then we will come out fighting on Tuesday.”

When asked what the main take aways from the match are, Molesley said: “ I think you can take a lot.

“You saw the good, the bad and the ugly out there and we have got to make sure that we see a lot more of the good I think as our first half display showed, we created a lot of chances, we dominated possession and then in the second half we lost our mojo.

“We made it really hard for ourselves, like I said, just a bit of sloppy defending straight away puts their tails up.

“We just took our eye off the ball a little bit. There is no excuse for that, there is no excuse for that.

“We prepped this game well, we knew we were playing against good opponents, we gave them the utmost respect.

“I think we showed that in the first half and then we forgot a few of our morals in the second half.

Weymouth travel to Street on Tuesday evening (7.45pm).
