HEAVITREE UNITED 1

LYME REGIS 3

LYME Regis produced a professional second-half performance to fight from a goal down to beat Heavitree United 3-1 in the Macron Devon & Exeter Premier Division.

Goals from Ben Turner and Fred Parsons secured the win, which boosts the Seasiders up to sixth in the table.

Lyme were up against it in the first half, with Heavitree making the most of the slight downhill in their favour.

After 20 minutes, a long ball from the home side evaded Gary Knight, who was making his return from injury, and their striker latched on to it to smash the ball into the top corner.

The two sides went in at the break with the home side a goal up.

However, Lyme retaliated in style in the second half with three goals to dispatch their opponents.

Firstly, Turner equalised 10 minutes into the second half with a back post header, following a cross from Parsons.

Lyme then took the lead in similar circumstances with a Turner header from a Parsons’ cross after 65 minutes.

The result was sealed when Mark Bailey combined with Ben Vine down the wing which saw the latter whip the ball in for Parsons to slot in after a scramble in the box.

Lyme had other chances go begging through Parsons, who missed a one-on-one, and another through Turner in a one-sided half.

Lyme boss Gerard Hitchcock said: “It was a good result so happy days.

“It was not the best pitch in the world, it was a really windy day so to come away with it I’m happy with that.

“We were going up the slight hill against the wind in the first half and they very much played a long ball game.”

The Seasiders travel to Newton on Saturday (2.15pm)
