SIR John Colfox Academy saw two teams progress through to the South West England Final after a successful day at Laverstock in round one of the English Schools Cross Country Cup.

In the first race the junior girls team was competing in its first major race on a fast and tough course and the team did exceptionally well to finish fifth.

The second race saw last year’s national finalists look to repeat their performance from last year and they did not disappoint.

Up against strong opposition the young team romped to victory, 14 points ahead of second place and all six of the team finished in the top 20.

The inter girls mirrored the performance of their junior counterparts, finishing fifth overall.

Katie Evans was the first girl home, followed by Lea Devecsery.

The final race saw the inter boys finish second, as right from the start Fin Cauldwell and Owen Pitcher went to the front and did not look back.

The junior and inter boys now prepare for the South West England Final on November 10 at Downside School.
