BRIDPORT 10

BRISTOL TELEPHONES 0

A RAMPANT Sam Clark hit four goals and Oscar Latas struck a brace as Bridport handed out a 10-goal demolition to Bristol Telephones in the preliminary round of the Les Phillips Cup.

The Bees also saw goals from Braeden Symes, Ben Morris with his first for the club, Richard Hebditch and Leighton Thomas as they put five goals past the Telephones in each half.

The 10-goal margin is double that of the next biggest win that the Bees have managed in the past four years.

Symes opened the floodgates after 15 minutes when he flicked on an Andy Martin corner into the net.

Yet drama would erupt when Kameron Andrews fired in a shot that was saved by the Telephones’ left-back’s hands and the visitors were subsequently put down to 10 men.

However, Hebditch saw his penalty saved, but from the resulting corner Lee Sweet headed in, which hit Latas before going in after 23 minutes.

A minute later and Morris put the game to bed with his first goal for Bridport, rounding the goalkeeper before slotting in after good work from Latas.

Three minutes later and Hebditch fired in when one-on-one with the goalkeeper to complete a ruthless four-goal haul inside 12 minutes for the brilliant Bees.

Clark rounded off the half with the first of his goals after 39 minutes when he tapped in after smart play from Morris.

The first half ended with the Bees brutally dominant and 5-0 up.

Any thoughts that the Bees might have held off and enjoyed their margin were swiftly dispatched by man-of-the-match Clark, who volleyed in on the run from a first-time cross by Morris.

Latas then bundled in a shot after breaking through the Telephones’ line for his second of the match.

Hebditch was then fouled inside the box before Clark smashed in the resulting penalty to put Bridport eight goals up.

Substitute Thomas then played a nice one-two with Clark before slamming the ball into the net.

Clark rounded off proceedings with a back-post volley after a good delivery from Leon Wood.

Bridport assistant manager Paddy Behan said: “They were not as bad as I thought they were, I know it sounds like a bit of a massacre, which it was, but they were not as awful as I sort of imagined they were going to be.”
