BRIDPORT UNDER-13S 7

WITHYCOMBE UNDER-13S 6

BRIDPORT Under-13s got their season off to an encouraging start, beating visitors Withycombe by seven tries to six in a closely-fought contest.

The game fluctuated this way and that before the Blues sealed the win at the last with a quickly taken free-kick and a score in the corner by Matt Elven.

The visitors had opened the scoring after sustained pressure, but Bridport responded well, testing their defence with some strong running.

Daniel James scored twice and the game was on. Further tries were scored at each end, Bridport’s courtesy of Barney Johnson, Henry Everitt, with two, and Ali Marasli but neither side could gain the upper hand.

Bridport’s lighter scrum did particularly well to compete on level terms.

As the game progressed it was good to see the improvement in all areas of Bridport’s play, especially in attack. A real desire to get on the front foot brought out the best in the team, every one of whom had an excellent game.

Next Sunday, the Blues travel to North Dorset and will hope to build on their success.
