BRIDPORT’s Ben Renshaw finished 169th out of 43,000 runners at the Great North Run on Sunday.

This means he finished inside the top 0.4 per cent of all runners at the event.

Renshaw said: “It was a good day out, well long weekend more than anything. It was all good by all accounts.

“For me it was a bit too hot. It was not by my PB but equally it was just an enjoyable day out and one off my bucket list.

“The first 10 miles were much hotter than expected and a lot of people were suffering with it but after 10 miles it clouded over somewhat and I finished on a good three miles at the end.”

Renshaw runs for the Bridport Runners and his split times were 18:16 for five kilometers, 38:19 for 10k and 59:25 after 15k.

Renshaw, discussing his times, said: “That is experience coming through a little bit there, but like I say I just enjoy running just for the leisure side of it.

“I will always complete it, I would have preferred a better time like everyone else would have done but that is just the way it is some days.

“It is an enjoyable day out and again it is one off the bucket list for me. I have been watching it for years and then watching Mo doing it for the last few years I thought I would give it a go myself.”

Renshaw hopes to target the Great South Run, which takes place in Portsmouth in October one day but Renshaw will not now be able to do it until next year at the earliest.
