TIVERTON TOWN 1

L Landricombe 39

BRIDPORT were narrowly beaten 1-0 by Evo-Stik Southern Premier South high-fliers Tiverton Town, with Levi Landricombe’s 100th goal for the Tivvy proving the difference in their FA Cup first qualifying round clash.

Bridport saw numerous chances come and go but could not create the goal needed to force a replay after Landricombe’s 39th-minute goal and the Bees dominated the second half.

The first half was an even affair until Landricombe’s goal six minutes before the interval when Tiverton were able to break away and get the ball through to Landricombe to fire past Jason Hutchings.

Tiverton had seen chances from Tom Bath and Landricombe go begging, while Bridport’s Andy Martin was narrowly denied directly from a corner.

Sam Clarke went close late on after a great ball from Mark Salter saw him force Tiverton goalkeeper Liam Armstrong into a great save at his near-post.

The second half was one-way traffic as Bridport bossed the entire 45 minutes, creating numerous chances but could not find a way past Armstrong.

Salter had a couple of opportunities when the ball came back to him on the edge of the box but his first was off target and the other was scrambled away.

Martin had a couple of good chances from free-kicks but again the Bees could not get the breakthrough.

Bridport went incredibly close when the Tivvy failed to clear the ball, which fell to Clarke at the back post but Armstrong pulled off a stunning stop to deny him and ultimately the Bees as they fell to a 1-0 defeat.

Bridport manager Adam Fricker was full of praise for the performance his side put in against a side that are two leagues above them.

Fricker said: “I could not have wished for a better performance.

“We deserved more than what we got to be fair.

“To sum it up, absolutely gutted and immensely proud were probably the words I used to the lads after the game.

“I think the biggest compliment I could probably pay the lads is that if a neutral turned up to watch that game they would not have known who were the Southern League side and who were the Western League side were that is for sure.”
