BRIDPORT boss Adam Fricker admits it would be ‘fantastic’ if he could see his side finish in the top six this year, but admits it will be very difficult as they get their 2018/19 season underway in the Toolstation Western Premier Division.

The Bees got their season off to a great start against Chipping Sodbury Town, with a 2-0 win thanks to goals from Chris McGrath and James Cox on Saturday and Fricker is hoping they can improve on last year.

It was no secret we had a really pleasing season last year, we had a great FA Cup run and then obviously finishing seventh in the league. So you have to look to improve so from our perspective we want to improve season after season so if we could break into the top six that would be fantastic.

“But likewise we know that is going to be very difficult. A lot of the teams in and around us have strengthened quite considerably, and then you look at the likes of Plymouth Parkway coming into the league who are going to be be very strong.”

Bridport’s run in the FA Cup last year took them to the third

qualifying round where they lost in a narrow 2-1 defeat to St Albans

City from the National League

South.

Fricker emphasised the need for a strong start to the season, but praised his youthful side and insists that they will only get better throughout the season.

Fricker said: “We will just get our heads down and go about our business and look to finish as high as we can but first and foremost we need to start the season well.”

“What we know is that take out a couple of our lads and other than that we are a young side so the likes of Louis Rutter, who is our captain, Kameron Andrews, Leighton Thomas and Braeden Symes.

“They are all young, young lads that are learning their trade in the Western League and they have got another season of Western League football under their belts and once again they will improve this season as well.”
