BRIDPORT manager Adam Fricker is confident with his squad ahead of their Toolstation Western Premier Division opener away at Chipping Sodbury Town on Saturday (3pm).

Bridport will be without Andy Martin and Matt Condliffe for the match, but the former will only miss that match.

Fricker said: “We are pretty comfortable, we are in good nick and the other lads have had a good pre-season in regards to fitness etcetera so yeah, we want to get going now.

“We are in good shape. We know that we have got Chris McGrath, Kameron Andrews and Lee Sweet all returning to the squad. It will be a massive plus, especially defensively which is where we have been light in in pre-season.”

Chipping Sodbury represents one of the longer journeys for Bridport in the season and Fricker is happy it has not fallen on a midweek fixture.

Fricker said: “(I’m) glad to get it out the way to a certain extent, you do not want to do your long distance travelling midweek so it’s not a bad one to be starting our season with. It is a really nice set-up there.

“They are quite a young side towards the back end of last season but they played some cracking football, we will be going up there wary of their threats but also confident with the lads we are going up there with.”

Fricker admitted he is glad to be done with the friendlies, saying: “We just want to get Saturday underway now and kick on and see where we go.

“I think everyone is just looking forward to getting going now to be fair.”

Bridport saw their midfielder Max Buckler leave for Portland last week but Fricker is content with the players he has, but admitted they will take stock after Saturday.

Fricker said: “At the moment we have just waited if there was anything that was going to come out of some Southern League clubs once their pre-season is done.

“So we are sort of at that stage now where will get the main focus on Saturday’s game and then take stock after Saturday and see if anything is available but we are content with what we have got.”

Matt Condliffe miss the game due to an eye injury which is due to be assessed further on Tuesday, August 7.

“We in the hands of doctors, but certainly with something as serious as that it will not rush it.

“We will put no timescale on when Matt returns and when he does it will be another asset for us.”
