BRIDPORT paddled past their opposition to maintain their position at the top of the Jurassic League with an overall win at West Bay in their annual regatta.

In second were Lyme Regis, with Swanage in third but Bridport maintain top place across the men’s A, ladies’ A, ladies’ B and mixed categories.

Fourteen gigs from 10 different clubs attended and competed at the home of Bridport Gig Club.

The course was an elongated kite shape stretching west towards Eype with three-stroke side turns and a finish line just off the pier.

Racing began with the veterans’ category where the ladies’ vets race was won by Weymouth rowing in Tristan, second was Bridport in Brydian while Bridport men’s vets were second to Lyme in Tempest.

The ladies’ open races followed, with Bridport C and Bridport B achieving first places but Bridport A finished second to Swanage A.

The juniors raced a shorter course with both under-16s and under-14s racing together and Bridport’s newly put together junior crew finished sixth, with Brixham taking home the trophy.

In the mixed race, Bridport entered two crews, Brydian and Dagger, who finished first and fourth respectively in a closely-contested race.

In the men’s open, Bridport C crew finished second and the B crew sixth but the men’s A continued their strong form to win convincingly.

Lastly were the super vets (over-50) races which saw another win for Bridport ladies while the men crossed the line in fifth.
