LYME Regis Golf Club kicked off their week of celebratory golf with an open 125 medal competition, which produced some spectacular results as many participants rose to the challenge.

In a packed field, scratch handicapper, Scott Love played the round of his life as he parred every hole on the course apart, that is, from the three birdies in each nine.

This wonderful display of golf, which included a birdie on stroke index one, meant that Love went round in 65 which is new course record for the lowest gross round, eclipsing the 66 scored by Roger Seed in 2003.

A truly memorable occasion and it was good that Seed was there and playing and was able to 'pass over his crown'.

In many ways, Caroline Baker's round was equally remarkable as she finished second on countback with a brilliant nett 65 in her sublime round that on many other days would have secured gold especially after eight nett pars on the front nine.

In finishing third with 67, David Retallack's tenacious front nine set him up with a very worthy podium finish.

Meanwhile, more than 80 club carrying members, plus 10 filming and another 20 assisting, were trying to break another record during the 125 golf week, this time for the fastest round of golf.

The record stood at 13 minutes and 42 seconds.

The Mayor of Lyme Regis, Michaela Ellis, was the official starter, accompanied by her consort and husband Alan and also Alan Vian, the Town Crier who introduced the proceedings in the traditional town crier fashion.

Hamish Marshall was the BBC television reporter and the attempt was broadcast live on the BBC Spotlight programme.

Despite two attempts the best time was 14 minutes and 21 seconds, but fair to say that it was great fun enjoyed by many.

All 18 holes are played by different people, finishing one hole before you start the next, and there were moments of skill and disaster, during both attempts.

A barbecue followed that evening and the next day the club held a special 125 dinner.
