FLEUR de Lys house retained the Sports Day trophy for the fourth consecutive year at the Sir John Colfox Academy Sports Day.

The trophy was presented by former governor and long-term associate of the school, Bob Hall and there were a number of records broken on the day including Oakley Winters O’Brien, Owen Pitcher, Maddy Herbert and Euan Pollock in the 600m and Lea Devecsery in the long jump.

The event was held in glorious weather and was a fitting finale to what has been another wonderful year of athletics for the school.

The day was an opportunity for everyone to shine and over the two days more than 400 children took part in the track and field programme, the highest ever participation it has ever seen.

The track programme got underway with the traditional mascot race which saw the four house co-ordinators don the costumes and take to the track.

Setting the tone for the day it was the Fleur de Lys Knight, in the shape of Mr Morse, who took the honours.

The final events of the day saw A and B teams take part in the 4x100m and all 10 lanes were full for every year group.

Gary Littlechild, head of PE, said: “This was a really lovely day and for me the highlight was the tremendous support that the students gave each other in what were very hot conditions.

“We have grown used to witnessing high class performers and this year was no exception.

“We are really grateful that the events of the day were captured brilliantly by budding photographer, Year 10 student May Smith.”
