BRIDPORT assistant-manager Paddy Behan was pleased to see some of his youngsters do well as he took charge of the reserves in their 4-2 loss at home to champions Hamworthy Recreation in the Dorset Premier League.

Hamworthy needed a win to secure the Dorset Premier League crown with Westland Sports still able to overtake with a victory at Balti Sports if the Hammers lost.

Behan said: “We had a bit of a mix and match side. We had quite a few last-minute drop outs and we had to call some other people in. To be honest, we were 2-1 up and we had a really good chance after half-time to make it 3-1 then literally 60 seconds later they scored to make it 2-2.”

“I think it is very hard, I did not call three or four of them until Friday and it is hard when your season has finished and then to get up again and come and help out.

“It was positive to see some of the younger lads do quite well.”

Andy Martin initially levelled for the Bees with a penalty in the first half, before Mika Mamanta gave Bridport a lead at half-time.

However, the Hammers came storming back with three second-half goals to sink the Bees.

Reflecting on Hamworthy’s equalising goal, Behan said: “I think that gave them the bit between the teeth then, they were playing to win the league so they had to win.”
