Christmas is approaching and as it can be a busy and expensive time of year, you might be looking for ways to save money this winter.

If you use your hob to boil foods like eggs, there’s a way that you can make it more cost-efficient and it’s simple to do.

A TikTok user has shared one way you can save money when it comes to cooking.

TikTok hack to save money and water when boiling food this winter

TikTok user @costoflivingcrisistips showed other users how they use a saucepan with a lid to help save money.

The video the account shared shows water and eggs boiling in a saucepan with a lid on and the user says that this is best if you want to save money.

The video claims that using a lid when boiling food will cook it quicker and save you money since you’re cutting down the time that you’re using the hob.

It also explains that using the lid on the pan reduces moisture in the air.

While that might save you money, you can go one step further by reusing the water from boiling the eggs to add to your washing up bowl when it comes to cleaning the dishes.

Having said this, you’ll need to make sure it isn’t still at boiling temperature or too hot to avoid burning yourself as you wash up.

The video has amassed more than 13,000 views on the social media platform.
