VETERAN stage performer Bill Street is the new president of Lyme Regis Pantomime Society.

Bill, who gave his final appearance with the society as the Dame in the February production of Goody Two Shoes, succeeds the late Ken Loader who died a few weeks before opening night.

Acclaimed as one of the finest panto dames in the district, Bill’s membership of the society spans more than 50 years.

He first appeared on the Lyme stage in the early 1950s under the direction of the late Frank Stone, and he was one of the founder members when the society reformed in 1984 after a long period of closure.

After his election at Monday night’s annual meeting, Bill said: “I am honoured to accept the office, and I will do my best to uphold the fine traditions of Lyme Regis Pantomime Society.”

The society has another new officer in Jackie Hedley Tuffs who was elected treasurer, an office previously held by Ted Colley until his sudden death this year. Members welcomed, too, the return to the committee of Marjorie Loveridge who was thanked for her outstanding commitment to the society’s bingo sessions.

The serving officers and committee were re-elected en bloc.
