THESE pictures of film stars Gordon Jackson, Cecil Parker and Ronald Shiner were taken at West Bay in 1959.

Brenda Dunn, of North Allington, was a teenager when she visited the Bay to watch filming of The Navy Lark in July that year.

After reading last week's piece about the making of the film, based on the radio show of the same name, she dropped by the News office to share these pictures.

Mrs Dunn said: "I took the pictures with my little box camera, I went everywhere with it. They certainly weren't as friendly as when the TV crew came and did Harbour Lights (in the late 1990s).

"They were film stars and weren't really interested in us."

West Bay and Eype beach were used as settings for parts of the film that tied in with the early radio shows.

It told the story of an island off the South Coast of Britain and what happens when the Admiralty axes the minesweeping unit based there and the crew decides they must do something to save their cushy lifestyle.

Mrs Dunn saw the finished film in London while on honeymoon with her husband Sam.

She said: "They were talking about this rugged beach in France - and it was Eype Beach.

"We laughed right there in the middle of the cinema!"
