Thanks to Roger McGhee for sharing these photos of the band Lee Marvin & the Staccatos playing at the roller rink in the Sidney Hall, Weymouth.
The band was started in the early 60s playing rock 'n' roll - Cliff Richard and The Shadows style music - with Roger on vocals, who was known as Lee, 'Miff' Smith on guitar (later replaced with Ted Stevens), 'Henry' Ireland on lead guitar, Pete Horton on bass with Terry Horden on drums.
They ran their own local bops/dances at the Waverley Pub, The Rock pub, the Old Town Hall and Broadwey Memorial Hall. They also played Sidney Hall on Wednesday nights, and needed to be cautious with the mike - it gave off electric shocks!
For gigs out of town the band had Peter Bennet (Broadwey Motors) as tour/road manager with his trusty Bedford van.
The band disbanded in the mid sixties and Roger changed to bass guitar and played with The Soundsmen, who had a record deal with Joe Meek. Roger also played with Denise Scott, KB Sounds, Music Box (Harrys Bar) house band, Pete Wilson, Tony Wilson Big Band and various Pontin house bands, ending up now back with 'Miff' and REPLAY, established in 2010.
