THE esplanade at Weymouth is barely recognisable on an unusually quiet day around 1905.
Undoubtedly taken in winter, the photo shows that the road was slightly narrower than it is today, but the iconic clock stands proud on the promenade. The familiar row of buildings along the seafront have changed little, but the esplanade looks somewhat bare with neither the town's much-loved fairy lights or our current, more contestable, lasers lighting up the sky.
Thanks to our reader Bill Macey for sharing this historical image of the town.
