ONE final word on the beautiful painting we shared which the artist described as being painted 'from the cavalry barracks'.

Last week we heard from Nigel Osmond of Radipole Terrace, the site of the cavalry barracks, built in 1798.

Thanks to our readers for sharing this Ordnance Survey map from 1856 with us, in which you can see the barracks marked.

It now seems as though the artist didn't know where he was! Our readers think the picture was painted from Lodmoor Marsh 'the hill in the foreground must be near Wyke Oliver Farm'. Another reader thought the painting could have been done from somewhere like Bowleaze.

It seems as though this might be one of those things we put down to 'artistic licence'!
