According to Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service (DWFRS), the stop - which indicates an incident is under control and no further resources are required - was at 8.19pm last night.
East Street was closed from the Esso roundabout to the junction of South Street while they dealt with the fire.
Firefighters left the scene and the road reopened at about 11pm.
According to DWFRS, there was a reinspection of the site this morning to ensure there were no hot spots and the incident has now been closed.
"The fire started accidentally in the takeaway kitchen," a spokesperson confirmed.
