Sixty young people battled windy weather conditions to learn how to sail.

Lyme Regis Sea School (LRSS) hosted their second ever open day with instructors taking students out on the water to practice their sailing skills in the morning and capsizing in the afternoon.

The sea school is a charity, and only charges £5 for each sailing session, meaning that the day was available to young people regardless of their financial background or circumstances.

Ollie Tucker, Chief Instructor at LRSS said: “The open day was an absolute pleasure to organise and run, in large part due to the brilliant group of young people and instructors who were willing to get stuck in and sail in some really challenging conditions.”

The aim of the open day was to provide an accessible introduction to sailing and attendees warmed up between sessions in the shoreside clubhouse facility, where hot chocolates and barbecue lunches were served.

The charity occasionally receives grant funding, from bodies like Lyme Regis Town Council, and have a current bid with Axminster and Lyme Regis Tesco under their blue token initiative.

All bookings for summer courses can be made here: www.lrss.uk, and the blue token initiative in Axminster and Lyme Regis Tesco will be running until late June and securing this grant will help the charity secure their youth evening sailing sessions, as well as next year’s open day.
