Singers from West Dorset will be performing a choral piece by the famed classical composer Mozart.

The West Dorset Singers will perform Mozart’s Requiem in St Mary’s Church, Bridport, on Saturday, April 27.

The piece was commissioned to commemorate the tragically early death of an aristocrat’s wife and reflects the desperation of a young man about to meet his own maker, but with the hope of eternity in heaven.

There will also be a performance of Miserere by Czech composer Jan Zelenka who preceded Mozart by half a century.

The third and final piece of the performance is much more recent. Dona nobis pacem (Give us peace), written in 1996 by Latvian composer Pēteris Vasks, which explores the music of these three words in a Baltic manner.

The choir will be accompanied by a professional orchestra and a quartet of soloists, all recent choral scholars from The Choir of Royal Holloway, London.

The concert starts at 7pm with tickets available for £15 for adults and under 18s can watch the performance for free.

Tickets can be bought from Goadsby Estate Agents in Bridport on South Street, and on-line at https://westdorsetsingers.org/
