A man from Bridport has been arrested on suspicion of driving offences following reports of an overturned vehicle. 

As previously reported, armed police and paramedics were seen in Church Street between Stottingway Street and Elwell Street in Upwey, Weymouth, in response to an incident on Friday, March 29.

Pictures taken of the incident showed a car flipped on to its roof and damage to a stone wall. 

Dorset Police has since confirmed to the Bridport and Lyme Regis News that officers attended the scene following a report of a crash and overturned vehicle at 10.01am Friday, March 29.  

A 42-year-old man from Bridport was subsequently arrested on suspicion of driving offences. He was released on police bail while enquiries into the crash continue.

The road was temporarily closed from the time of the incident until around 11.35am the same day. 

A spokesperson from Dorset Police said: "We received a report at 10.01am on Friday 29 March 2024 of a single vehicle collision in Church Street in Weymouth.

"Officers attended with the ambulance service. It was reported the vehicle had overturned.

"A 42-year-old man from Bridport was arrested on suspicion of driving offences and released on police bail while enquiries continue.

"The road reopened at around 11.35am."

A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) said: "We were called at 09.59am on Friday, March 29 to a road traffic accident in Weymouth.

"We sent a double-crewed land ambulance, an operations officer and a rapid response vehicle to the scene and we conveyed one patient by land ambulance to Dorset County Hospital.”
