An upcoming event for dog lovers in Weymouth has been cancelled as its organisers have gone into liquidation.

The Bark in the Park event which was set to take place in Radipole Gardens in May has been cancelled.

Held in conjunction with Weymouth Town Council, Dog Friendly Social and the Friends of Radipole Park Gardens, it sees a dog show, stalls and activities descend upon the park.

First incorporated in 2022, Poundbury Events Management Ltd had been set to organise the event in 2023, but it was postponed to 2024. Now the event has been cancelled as the company has gone into liquidation.

A joint statement from Weymouth Town Council, Dog Friendly Social, and the Friends of Radipole Park Gardens reads: “An event called Bark in the Park organised by Poundbury Events Management Ltd was due to take place at Radipole Park and Gardens on Saturday, May 11. Unfortunately, we have since learnt that the company has gone into liquidation and therefore the event will not be going ahead.

“We would expect Poundbury Events Management Ltd to contact all stallholders who had booked a place at the event to inform them about the event cancellation as they have been dealing directly with the bookings process."

A new, free event, 'Paws in the Park' is being organised in its place, and is set to take place on Saturday, June 1.

Co-founder of Dog Friendly Social Linda Stevenson helped organise the Bark in the Park event in 2022 and runs a similar annual event at Nothe Fort. She said: "We were told they could not do it last year so they rearranged for May. We found out recently that they are not going to be doing the event, so we decided we could."

The joint statement continues: “Weymouth Town Council, Dog Friendly Social, and the Friends of Radipole Park Gardens are working in partnership to put on a new, free event for dog lovers to enjoy called Paws in the Park.

“The community event is on Saturday, June 1 at Radipole Park Gardens between 11am to 3pm, and all are welcome to attend."

Entry to the new event is free with a small charge for dog show entries.
