TRIBUTES have poured in to remember one half of the Hairy Bikers, Dave Myers who has died at the age of 66.

Mr Myers visited West Dorset on numerous occasions and was fondly remembered by those who met him and his co-star Si-King.

He found fame alongside King, his friend of 30 years, as part of the motorcycle-riding cooking duo.

Myers, born in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, first announced he was receiving treatment for cancer in May 2022, but did not specify what type he had been diagnosed with.

Matt Yaxley,  owner of Herbies Fish and Chips near the Cobb, met Myers in 2022 and said he was a big fan of the Hairy Bikers.

"We are all really sad to hear the news," said Mr Yaxley.

"He came with his wife, they had rented a holiday home in Lyme Regis.

"We sold them fish and chips and some scallops and he stayed and had a chat with us.

"Sometimes we get famous people here and they don't want to talk but he was different, he wanted to chat and he was a really nice guy.

"I always used to watch him on TV, it was only a couple of weeks ago I was watching one of their shows.

"I told him I had received one of his books for Christmas and made his Indonesian fish curry.

"He was a really nice chap."

He was no stranger to Lyme Regis, having worked on the TV drama Harbour Lights as a member of the production crew. The show was filmed locally in the late 1990s.

Blacksmith Alex Pole was visited by the Hairy Bikers at the end of 2022 as part of their filming for their latest TV show - The Hairy Bikers Go West.

The Bikers learned how Alex uses his forge to create temperatures in excess of a thousand degrees before shaping and sharpening the blade to create a bespoke knife.

Alex said: "We spent half a day filming with them.

"They were wonderful people and they were very kind.

"You could tell Dave was very poorly and it is very sad to hear."

Hairy Bikers Goes West continues on BBC Two on Tuesday, March 5.
