A fire service has advised motorists against driving down certain roads after a yellow weather warning for rain was announced by the Met Office.

The warning is in place across Dorset from 6am to 6pm tomorrow (Sunday, February 24) with the Met Office warning that flooding could make journey times longer.

Sunday's warning comes after the ground had been left saturated by heavy rain and flooding throughout last week.

Charmouth Fire Station have advised motorists to avoid a number of local roads due to the possibility of flooding.

The roads are: Becklands Lane, Gassons Lane, also known as Cards Mill Lane, both near Whitchurch Canopicorum, and Berne Lane near Morcombelake.

Further advice was issued by the station asking motorists to avoid driving through water if they are heading out for the day, even if it does not look deep.

A spokesperson for DWFire said: "If you do get stuck in the water, stay with your vehicle and call 999. Don't try to get out as the water can be very fast flowing and can quickly knock you off your feet. Stay safe and dry."
