A man was seriously injured when he was hit by a car in Bridport.

Police are hunting the driver of the car involved after they fled the scene.

The man - a pedestrian aged in his 20s and from Devon - was hit on West Street, near the junction with South Street, between 10.50 and 11am on Tuesday.

He was left with serious injuries, according to Dorset Police, and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Police are now appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.

The vehicle said to have failed to stop at the scene is described as similar to a dark-coloured Honda Jazz or very dark purple Vauxhall Corsa.

Police Constable Simon Wilcox, of Bridport police, said: “I am carrying out an investigation and would ask witnesses, or anyone with relevant dashcam footage, to please come forward.

“Also, I am appealing to the driver of the car involved to please get in touch so we can take your account of what happened.”
