Repairs have been made to a Bridport car park after complaints were made about its ‘shabby’ state.

Dorset Council has undertaken work to fill in some rather large potholes in East Street Car Park to make it safer for users.

A spokesperson for Dorset Council said: “We have made repairs to East Street Car Park.

"We were aware of the reported defects, so we had already planned to inspect the site and carry out any necessary works and we did not need to close the car park to complete the maintenance.”

A local resident who owns a permit for the car park and has previously voiced their concerns said: “It will be a lot safer for people and that’s the main thing. This will definitely make a difference.

“It’s good, I am surprised that they have done it so quickly, it was getting dangerous and shabby I thought, but I know that the economic situation is so difficult for local councils.”

Concerns were raised after a bout of ‘appalling rain’ caused a lot of problems with potholes and rubble.

However, the directional writing on the ground of the car park and white parking lines remain worn away and are yet to be repainted.

One car park user said: “The lines are not fulfilling their duty as you can’t see them."

Any issues spotted in the car parks can be reported by the public via the Dorset Council website, emailing customerservices@dorsetcouncil.gov.uk, or calling 01305 221000.
