A men’s mental health group based in Bridport will be holding its first meeting next Monday.

Bridport Men's Wellness Group invites men across the town to join their sessions every two weeks at Bridport Youth and Community Centre, starting from Monday, January 22 from 7.30pm to 9pm.

Through regular sessions, local men are given the opportunity to make connections, get stuff off their chest, ward off isolation and gain support through life’s challenges.

The group hopes to approach a wide range of issues and topics such as diet, exercise, meditation, finances, and legal support. No subject would be off the table as long as it helps the group to move forward and grow.

Nick Hughes recognised the lack of wellbeing support groups for men in the local area and decided to set one up himself that would coincide with day job hours.

He said: “Mental health is a hot topic at the moment, but often times, when people talk about mental health they actual mean mental illness.

"More and more men are feeling isolated and insignificant, which can lead to poor mental and physical health, a negative self-image, and a lack of self-care. We all need community, connection and to feel heard.  Men are no different, but we rarely prioritise this.

"The aim of the group is to create a community, give men a sense of belonging, allow them to explore ideas to help facilitate self-improvement, learn new skills, pass on knowledge and skills that they have and move towards becoming the best version of themselves.”

The sessions are open to all men and free to attend. Teas and coffees will also be supplied.
