The Mayor of Lyme Regis has said he has found the first six months of his tenure ‘an honour and privilege’ and is looking forward to another busy year.

Councillor David Sarson was elected in June and has had a busy time enjoying the role and representing the town.

In his New Year message, he said: “As mayor, this past six months has been both eventful and very enjoyable, having attended and represented Lyme Regis in countless events both in Lyme Regis and throughout Dorset.

“It has been an honour and privilege to serve the community of Lyme Regis and very enlightening to meet other mayors on their own Civic Days from different towns in Dorset and see the many interesting sites and events that their towns have to offer.

“I was very pleased and honoured to host 15 mayors to my Civic Day back in August starting with a guided tour of the Cobb and Marine Parade, followed by a tour of the RNLI Boathouse, then a great show given by the Lyme Regis School of Ballet and ending with a tour of the Boat Building Academy.”

The mayor was also pleased to be involved with so many great events put on by the town and is looking forward to another jam-packed year of events as 2024 approaches – starting with the Duck race and Lyme Regis Lunge on New Year’s Day.

He added: “I have enjoyed immensely being involved with our local community who have given me so much support over the past six months, including leading the Regatta and Carnival procession, attending the Somers Day celebrations and the Remembrance Day Service and numerous other events in in our lovely town of Lyme Regis.

“Next year will be just as busy, starting with the Duck race and then the Lunge on New Years Day where we expect between 4,000 and 6,000 people to watch around 600 + people mostly in fancy costume take to the sea.

“I would like to take this opportunity to wish everybody a happy and healthy New Year.”
