A landslip caused by a fallen tree has caused a west Dorset road to close.

Dorset Police and Dorset Council are currently attending the incident and are in the process of clearing the road.

The road affected is the B3162 between Broadwindsor and Salwayash but the road is closed from Bridport.

An eyewitness at the scene has said that after the tree came down, which caused a landslide, the road will remain closed as 'the bank is unstable', according to the authorities.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: "We received a report at 12.35pm of a landslip partially blocking the road on the B3162 between Broadwindsor and Salwayash.

"Officers have attended, along with the local authority.

"The local authority is clearing the road and closures have been put in place as a precaution."

Dorset Council have been contacted to provide an update.

The rain has caused many roads and schools to close across the region today and comes after severe flooding affected Bridport on Monday, December 4.
