Hundreds of people gathered in Lyme Regis to officially welcome Christmas at a spectacular switch-on event.

The town is celebrating record numbers as crowds lined Broad Street as far as the eye could see to catch a glimpse of Santa hitting the switch.

Broad Street is now glowing blue and white as the festive season kicks in.

Lyme Regis Majorettes kicked off the festivities before Santa arrived on his sleigh for the big countdown. Lyme Morris and Fitsteps also performed at the big event.

The town's deputy mayor, Cllr Philip May, told the News: "It was great to see so many people out supporting the town. The Christmas lights are as excellent as ever and thanks goes to the Christmas lights committee who work hard all year to raise money. I'd like to thank them, local businesses and sponsors.
