Guests staying at Freshwater Beach Holiday Park have been evacuated following safety concerns.

A large emergency presence remains at the Dorset holiday park to check on the welfare of all residents and evacuate where necessary.

Fire engines, an ambulance and a coastguard helicopter have been spotted at Freshwater Beach Holiday Park as floods have overtaken the grounds.

The park has been forced to close due to the impact of storm Ciarán.

Around five of the static homes have been badly damaged by the storm with debris everywhere.

A witness described seeing firemen with poles going around and checking to make sure that everybody staying onsite was safe.

They also noted that it appeared that a couple of caravans had been dragged down towards the sea.

A spokesperson for Freshwater Beach Holiday Park said: “Due to extreme damage caused by storm Ciarán, the park is closed until further notice.

“This includes all pools and the Jurassic Fun Centre. We will keep you posted. Follow our sites for updates.”

Some guests still remain on site towards the back of the park where the grounds still appear to be safe.

One said: "Luckily our static caravan is elevated and at the back of the site. We did get wet with a surge this morning near where the vans got damaged around half an hour later,

"My wellies needed emptying and I just hope no one is injured. There are plenty of stranded cars stuck by vans where the the surges have come through the site."

A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service (DWFRS) said: "We are dealing with a significant flooding incident at Freshwater Holiday Park. This has been caused by the sea breaching defences in the area.

"Firefighters from Bridport (two fire engines) and our technical rescue team from Weymouth are currently in attendance.

"Crews are working with partners from Dorset Police, South West Ambulance Service, Dorset Council and the Coastguard to check on the welfare of all residents and evacuate where necessary. All those affected have now been taken to a place of safety."

A spokesperson for HM Coastguard said: "HM Coastguard has been responding to an incident in the Freshwater Beach Holiday Park area this morning, November, 2.

"We were alerted at around 9.20am, Exmouth and West Bay Coastguard Rescue Teams and the Coastguard helicopter from St Athan have been sent to assist, alongside Dorset Police and Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service."
