Businesses in Lyme Regis were provided with a welcome boost as crowds gathered to witness the filming of the Netflix hit show Heartstopper on Monmouth Beach.

Visitors watched on with interest as stars Kit Connor and Joe Locke, who play the main characters Nick Nelson and Charlie Spring, were seen shooting a scene together on the sand.

Fellow stars William Gao, Corrina Brown, Isaac Henderson and Rhea Norwood were also spotted in Lyme Regis.

The BAFTA-nominated comedy-drama follows the story of Charlie as he falls in love with his classmate Nick.

Dan Archer, a shop assistant at Lyme Regis Antiques and Craft Centre said: "We've had Wonka, Ammonite and French Lieutenant's Woman filmed here.

"It is quite nice shop-wise because often we end up in the shots when people take photos or film on the beach.

"It is good to bring in a few more people to the town.

"Anything that puts Lyme Regis on the map is of course a good thing for local businesses."

The filming began on Tuesday and is expected to finish today.

In a letter to residents the production company See-Saw Productions said they would keep disruptions "to a minimum".

Nick Pethybridge, Manager of Janes Takeaway, said: "For this time of year it has definitely helped bring people into Lyme.

"It has definitely picked it up for us

"I have seen a lot of people stopping and watching.

"Lyme Regis is quite picturesque, when you think of the ideal seaside town it just looks like Lyme Regis, that i why I think it is a popular place to film."

Marcus, an arcade attendant at Lyme Regis Amusements, said: "It is nice, it gives us something to look at on the beach.

"A couple of the girls in the cast came into the arcade and they were all very nice.

"I asked if they were extras and they said they were in the show.

"At this time of year, it doesn't really hurt."
