Sewage has been discharged into the sea in several locations across the Dorset coast.

The Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) charity has reported on its interactive map that storm sewage has been discharged from sewer overflows in the past 48 hours.

Storm overflows operate automatically, usually releasing stormwater during or after intense rainfall.

Pollution warnings have been issued for Lyme Regis Front Beach and Charmouth Beach.

At Lyme Regis there is a sewer overflow immediately on the beach, just east of the breakwater and then another to the west, on the other side of the harbour.

Discharges have not been reported but a Pollution warning is in place.

In Charmouth no water quality alerts are in place.

At a small stream associated with Charmouth West bathing water, during and after heavy periods of rainfall, runoffs from surrounding agricultural areas greatly increase and bathing water quality may be reduced.

A warning is in place at Charmouth Beach due to heavy rainfall which could lower the water quality.

Sewage discharges have been reported in Castle Cove, and Sandsfoot Castle in Weymouth and Chesil Cove on Portland.

A Pollution Alert has been issued in these areas, which says: "Pollution Alert: Storm sewage has been discharged from a sewer overflow in this location within the past 48 hours."

Warnings have been put in place in West Lulworth and Bowleaze Cove.

Sewage overflows have also been reported in Swanage, Poole, Bournemouth, Seaton and Beer over the past 48 hours.
