WITH half term nearing, one West Dorset museum has plenty of spooktacular activities for all the family.

Lyme Regis Museum is preparing to welcome visitors during the break with exciting activities running from Saturday, October 21, to Friday, October 27.

Craft lovers may be keen to see the return of Alison Bowskill on Saturday, October 21, as she brings her popular Print Making Workshop.

On Sunday, October 22 and Wednesday, October 25 the museum team are running fossil polishing sessions which are set to offer visitors the opportunity to learn all about the amazing ammonites that lived in the Jurassic seas of Lyme Regis and polish their own 200-million-year-old year fossil to take home as a souvenir.

Museum director Bridget Houseago, said: “We are very much looking forward to a fun-packed half term here at the museum, with a varied programme of activities designed to offer something for everyone.

A fossil detective and ID workshop will see museum education officer Chris Andrew offering hints and tips on fossil hunting and identifying any fossil finds that visitors may choose to bring along on Tuesday, October 24.

Also, on the Tuesday, the Discover Mary Anning Tour is an ideal opportunity walk in the footsteps of celebrated Lyme Regis palaeontologist Mary Anning and hear about her inspiring life and work.

The week of activities will come to a close with the highly anticipated ‘Spooktacular Night at the Museum’ on Friday, October 27, as the museum doors are opened after dark for a Halloween extravaganza featuring spooky crafts, torchlight tours, as well as freaky face painting.

Ms Houseago said: “Our Spooktacular Night at the Museum is a real highlight of the year for us and we can’t wait to open up our doors for a late evening to celebrate the creepiest night of the year.”

The Mary Anning’s Thunderbolts exhibition is currently running at the museum and is included in the admission price as well as the contemporary art exhibition Water and Sky, created by Mary Noon and Vivienne Littley.
