The sun had his hat on - and so did most of Bridport - as the town's magnificently magical hat festival returned.

A quirky celebration of hats, the festival features a number of events including competitions, live music and games.

As is tradition, the mass-hatted photo was taken in the square at 1pm followed by judging of the various hat competitions.

Locals and visitors alike donned their best headgear, and there was a fantastic range of hats to be seen.

Andrew Barker said: "It is good fun. We have been coming for three years. There are all of the people in different hats, it is quirky and people put in real effort. It is good to have these little traditions."

Rose and Chris Everest have been attending since the event started.

Rose said: "It is one of the typical Bridport events and it gets better every year."

Chris added: "It is good to see everyone wearing the hats. It is something simple and everyone can join in."

Cathy Harvey from Bridport works in one of the shops on the street where the festival takes place.

She said: "It is brilliant, it is a very 'Bridport' event. We like to get involved and it's bigger and better every year. We are lucky to have events like this in Bridport."

Ben Waldman and Tania Moy are visiting from London and decided to attend the festival.

Tania said: "It is really fun. I love how everyone comes out and makes an effort."

Ben added: "It is really colourful and bright, especially when the sun comes out."

Leo Hawker is visiting the in-laws with his family from Sheffield.

He said: "We heard about the festival and really wanted to come so we decorated some hats. This is our first time at the festival. Bridport is a lovely place to be."
