People are invited to create an un-beet-able sculpture with the launch of a new competition.

The Symondsbury Estate is encouraging people of all ages to take part in its Vegetable Sculpture Competition, taking place at the Symondsbury Estate Summer Fête, which is being held from 10am to 4pm on Wednesday, July 26.

Visitors can make a sculpture out of fruit and vegetables which can be as simple or elaborate as they like, whether it’s turning a funny shaped parsnip into a rabbit, transforming a cauliflower into a sheep or sculpting their favourite popstar out of carrots.

Julia Colfox, co-owner of Symondsbury Estate said: “We can’t wait to see people’s entries to the Vegetable Sculpture Competition.

"We trialled the idea first among our staff and the range and creativity of sculptures they came up with was fantastic. With so many green-fingered and creative people in and around Bridport, this should be a great opportunity for people to have some fun and enjoy the chance to win a great prize. All you need is some fruit and vegetables and cocktail sticks – you’ll be amazed what you can come up with.”

The competition is free to enter, and no artistic skills are required.

Other events taking place at this year’s fete including live music, Punch and Judy, Morris Dancing, a children’s entertainer, coconut shy and magic show, there will be the chance to sample some a great selection of local and artisan products.

Visitors are invited to bring a picnic or they can treat themselves to delicious takeaway food from the Estate’s BBQ or deli, or sit down to a home-cooked, locally produced meal at Symondsbury Kitchen – washed down with a glass or two of Pimm’s from the bar.

If you wish to enter the Vegetable Sculpture Competition, you need to fill out an entry form located here: www.symondsburyestate.co.uk/events/enter-the-inaugural-symondsbury-vegetable-sculpture-competition/ and email it to: suzie@symondsburyestate.co.uk, or drop it into the Visitor Centre at Symondsbury Estate, by midday on Monday, July 24.

Sculptures can then be delivered to the Visitor Centre between 10am and 4pm on Tuesday, July 25,

or between 8am and 9.30am on Wednesday, July 26.

Entry to the summer fête is free and car parking will be charged at a nominal fee with proceeds going to local charities and community groups.
