The A35 is set for a lengthy night-time closure in west Dorset this month as works are carried out along the busy route.

National Highways will be reconstructing and repairing the road between Bridport and Axminster in Devon from Monday, June 19 to Saturday, July 1.

In order for works to be completed safely, engineers are being forced to close the A35 both ways during the night for nearly two weeks.

The route will be shut to drivers between the hours of 8pm and 6am between June 19 and June 30, on weekdays only.

National Highways - which manages England's network of motorways and A-roads - warned that disruption is likely during the works.

The A35 was criticised by drivers as one of the worst routes for potholes and has undergone a big resurfacing drive in recent months.

Back in March, works between Dorchester and Devon were carried out to fill in holes and create a smoother road surface on the busy route through Dorset.
