BEAMINSTER 7

UPWEY & BROADWEY 1

BEAMINSTER romped to an emphatic 7-1 win over Upwey & Broadwey in their final home Dorset Senior League game of the season.

Neil Holt’s men needed a win in their quest to avoid relegation but started slowly and looked lethargic after an extended lay-off.

Upwey, meanwhile, were without five regular starters and named star striker Tom Cherry in goal.

Phil Anderson, Nathan Aston and Jamie Rawlings were also injured, adding to the Weymouth side's problems.

Once the game came to life, it was Beaminster that started to create the chances with the wide players of Noah and Isaac House running the Upwey full-backs.

Beaminster then grabbed the opening goal as Russell Legg, Jacob Parsons and Ryan Leader worked the ball to the House brothers who combined for Noah to slot home.

The Rainbows now found their stride and two goals were scored in quick succession, one an extraordinary Isaac House scorpion kick and an own goal which Jake Rowland is claiming.

And Beaminster made it 4-0 before half-time from the spot after Isaac House broke through the Upwey defence and was upended before picking himself up and converting.

Beaminster struggled to regain the same momentum in the second half and Upwey had their chances to pull a goal back, although they found keeper Murray Legg a difficult obstacle to pass.

Yet they did grab a goal back from the penalty spot through the dependable Oscar Preece.

With the fresh legs now getting up to speed, Beaminster added to the goal tally and this time it was the turn of Owen Ward.

However, the goal of the game was yet to come.

A Beaminster attack was halted with a foul 30 yards out and up stepped Ryan Leader who caressed the ball into the top corner and left the keeper stranded.

Ward then made it seven after smashing home a rebound.

Holt made his final substitution on 80 minutes and there was a warm welcome back for Aiden Trocian who was playing his first game after a bad long-term injury.

Post-match, Holt told Beaminster’s media team: “The performance has always been there and we were due to score a few goals.

“I’m delighted that we could do that at home in front of the supporters that have backed us week in, week out.”

Holt gave the man of the match award to Leader.

“We are lucky to have someone with Ryan’s quality at the club,” Holt said.

“He ran the game and I for one would have paid money to watch his performance.”

Bottom side Beaminster are one point adrift of Dorchester Sports Reserves with three games in hand.

Holt’s men visit Bournemouth Electric on Saturday (3pm).
