Dead lambs were discovered in a field and reported to police.

Officers from Dorset Police's rural crime team were called at around 2pm on Sunday when concern was raised for the welfare of some lambs and ewes in a field in west Dorset.

It was reported that there were several dead lambs in a field and a number of animals required medical treatment.

Officers attended and checked the sheep in the field, where the ones which needed treatment were located.

They were able to contact the farmer and the necessary treatment was given to those animals, according to the rural crime team.

When asked for further information by the News, police said they were unable to provide any further information or specific location.

They did confirm that no criminal offences have been identified.

There was also nothing to suggest a dog was involved.

A spokesman for the rural crime team said: “We would like to take this opportunity to highlight that we will respond to animal welfare matters and continue to encourage the public to report their concerns to us.”
