YOUNGSTERS at a Bridport school 'performed brilliantly' during their work experience week as they took on challenges at a range of different businesses.

Year 10 pupils at the Sir John Colfox Academy in Corbin Way set out to gain some invaluable guidance in the world of work in March.

During the week-long exercise, about 140 students got to grips with what is required from employees during their placements.

The school thanked Bridport's business community for allowing its pupils to gain experience as they prepare to finish their school studies.

Students tackled everything from landscape gardening, hospitality, leisure, law and even ship building.

Michael Thompson, head of careers at the Sir John Colfox Academy, said: “A wide range of work experience placements were undertaken by our students, everything from ship building, hospitality, law, as well as a huge range of businesses and public sector organisations - well done everyone."

Nathan Bartlett, head of Year 10, added: “It was fantastic to hear great reports from a huge range of businesses and other employers.

"I was impressed to hear that many students have been offered summer jobs."

Adam Shelley, headteacher, said: “It was great to hear so much praise from employers, we are very proud of our our students.

“Thank you again to everyone who provided a work experience placement, the range of opportunities on offer was amazing, demonstrating again Bridport’s warm community spirit.”
