As Friday marks the one-year anniversary of the invasion of Ukraine, west Dorset is readying to mark the day with services and vigils.
In Bridport a special service will be held at the Chapel in the Garden on Friday, February 24 at 6pm and will be led by Reverend John Harley.
It will reflect upon the invasion of Ukraine by Russia beginning on February 24, 2022, and there will be an opportunity to light candles of love for Ukraine and Ukrainians, with moments of silence, prayers, music, and reflections on the past year.
Ukrainian Valentina Osborne said: "Many of the Ukrainian refugees will find comfort in this chance to gather together at the Chapel, to light candles and sit in silence, thinking of their loved ones and praying for our country."
In Lyme Regis on Friday, there will be a quiet and respectful candlelight vigil from 6.30pm on the seafront at the Marine Parade shelters.
A spokesperson for the Lyme Regis Rotary Club said: “It will be a quiet and low-key candlelight vigil to show our support for the Ukrainian refugees living in Lyme Regis.”
In Dorchester on Friday, at 11am Dorset Council will raise the Ukrainian flag over the County Hall followed by a minute of silence by staff.
At 6pm in Weymouth on Friday, there will be a candlelight vigil at the Jubilee Clock.
