AROUND 180 people attended a church service held in memory of a woman killed in a fatal crash in Mosterton.

The service, held on Sunday, at Mosterton Church was led by Reverend Canon David Baldwin, provided those affected by the crash with a time of reflection, quiet and prayer.

It came after a crash at the A3066 in Mosterton on Wednesday evening that saw three pedestrians hit by a car, which then caught fire.

All three pedestrians, believed to be from the same family, were taken to hospital by air ambulance for treatment, but police said on Thursday afternoon that a woman aged in her 40s had died.

Speaking after the service, the Reverend Canon said: “We had about 180 people attend - a large number from the village but from all over, really, and quite a few from Yeovil as well.

“They really welcomed what we were doing and appreciated, I think, the space we were giving them and the fact we had done something. There’s nothing I can say that will replace the loss of an individual or change what has happened but we gathered as a community and we grieved as a community.”

“We are always here to support the community in times like this: we will go where the community wants us to go and do what we can to help bring people together.”

“I know the emergency service personnel were quite shocked at the severity of it all and we will be doing our bit to support them, as well.”

The service was attended by the partner and extended family of the woman who died with the Reverend Canon saying the church would continue to offer support ‘if desired’.

Reverend Jo Neary had previously said the church would offer a ‘space to grieve’ and added: “We will always respond to the needs of the community and are always here to help: whether that’s by speaking to members of the clergy or simply by providing a space for people to grieve and process their thoughts.”

“We are available for people, if people want us to be: we are not just for those that are religious, we are here for the community as a whole.”
