Three pedestrians were seriously injured when they were hit by a car.

Emergency services rushed to the scene of a major car crash on the A3066 last night.

A car was reported to have collided with three pedestrians before catching fire in Mosterton. 

Police, two fire crews and an air ambulance were called to the crash.

The pedestrians were taken to the hospital by air ambulance for treatment.

The A3066 Orchard View is now closed in both directions from South Perrrot turn-off to Drimpton turn-off.

Searches were carried out to find a man who was involved and had left the scene of the crash.

The man was located and taken to hospital for injuries which were not believed to be serious.

Police enquiries are ongoing.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: "Dorset Police received a report at 8.13pm on Wednesday 8 February 2023 of a collision in Main Road in Mosterton involving a vehicle and a number of pedestrians.

"Officers attended along with the fire service, following reports that the car involved was on fire.

"The fire was extinguished and three people were taken by air ambulance to hospital for treatment to serious injuries.

"Following reports that a man involved in the collision had left the scene, searches were carried out in the area.

"A man aged in his 40s was located and detained before being taken to hospital for treatment to injuries that were not believed to be serious.

"Enquiries into the incident are ongoing."

A blue Mercedes can be seen destroyed by fire damage, police remain at the scene.

Bus services has had to be re-routed due to the road closure. First Wessex services 6/B1/B4 have been affected by the collision. 

Wiltshire Air Ambulance were one of the helicopters on the scene. A statement from the service said: "​Wiltshire Air Ambulance was called to a road traffic collision in Mosterton, Beaminster, Dorset at 20:09 on Wednesday 8 February 2023.

"We attended in our helicopter and airlifted a patient to Southmead Hospital in Bristol."
