Bridport’s revitalised Community Charter Fair is set to return for a second year following a successful trial run.

The free event will take place on Saturday, May 20 at Mountfield and Bucky Doo Square, complete with entertainment and refreshments.

Last year the experimental event was met with extremely positive feedback.

John Firrell, of the Bridport Local Area Partnership, said: “What a jolly affair it was - a plethora of creative community spirit on display, information available for all, plus loads to enjoy for those attending.”

Town mayor Ian Bark added: “It was wonderful to see so many community groups present on Millennium Green. They are all amazing. I was really pleased with the event and could not stop smiling whenever I reflected on it.”

It is anticipated that there will be more than 50 community groups involved on the day including Bridport Young Performers, who will once again be providing a ‘Children’s Area,’ with a visit from some surprise guests.

Last year Bridport Cohousing attended the event and Lin Scrannage of the group said: “There was a steady stream of visitors to the stand all day long and a high level of interest. People were generally very impressed with the amazing range of community projects in the town and it was really good to showcase them all in one event.”

There will also be two annual awards handed out on the day, the Charter Fair Trophy for a group or organisation, and the Above and Beyond Trophy for an individual, these will be presented by the Mayor of Bridport in recognition of outstanding service to the Community.
