A 72-year-old man has been disqualified from driving for 28 days after being caught driving at 84 miles per hour.

Colin Joseph Stansbie, whose address was given as Wheatlands, on Portland, appeared before Weymouth Magistrates’ Court having been found guilty under the single justice procedure of one charge of exceeding the legal speed limit.

Stansbie was behind the wheel of his Mercedes on January 26 last year when he was clocked driving at 84mph on the A35 at Miles Cross, near Bridport - the speed limit of which was 50mph.

He was handed a 28 day disqualification from holding or obtaining a driving licence, and fined £311. He must also pay costs of £110 and victim surcharge of £34.

The defendant’s guilty plea was taken into account when imposing sentence.
